BEE Aware Day

16 September 2023

Presented by University of Otago Zoology, Botany, and ecology students and staff and Tūhura Otago Museum

Location: Tūhura Otago Museum, 1st Floor Atrium

Time: 10:30am – 3pm

September 2023 is Bee Aware Month, and we will be holding workshops to educate on how to help bees and other important pollinators in your backyard.

There will be fun games, gardening tips, and scientists on hand to answer your questions. Play our “Is It A Bee?” game, visit the bee-feeding station, or get a face painted with your own little critter – there are plenty of free activities to keep the whole family entertained and informed on backyard biodiversity!

Games: You can try your identification skills with our ‘Is it a Bee?’ game, try out our butterfly matching and memory games, or take away one of a variety of pollinator-themed activity sheets.

Education: We will have microscopes set up so you can view pollen and flower parts up close. We will have insect collections and possibly a few live insects to observe too. At each of the stations, we’ll be able to answer questions and often will have additional material that you can take away with you.
